Do you wake up every Monday morning with a great motivation to start dieting to look your holiday best? Somehow by Wednesday – happy hump day – that resolve is starting to weaken and by Friday night it is just plain gone, out the window! Come Monday morning it starts all over again. While you may not be gaining any weight, you certainly aren’t losing any either. How do you stick to your guns and still lose the weight?
Â
Through trial and error I have found the following plan to work best:
Â
- Tons of vegetables with every meal!
- If you prepare for yourself an egg white omelet for breakfast filled with vegetables
- Lots of vegetables with some broiled fish for lunch
- Grilled chicken cutlet with heaps of veggies for dinner
- Snack on fresh slices of apple, carrot, celery or cucumbers or allow yourself one handful of nuts or dried fruit for an am and pm snack.
Â
- Follow this routine all week long. Allow yourself one cheat day to have just one slice of pizza or a small serving of pasta. Whole wheat pizza and pasta would be healthier options. Don’t forget to add plenty of vegetables on the side of your pizza and pasta to fill you up with vitamins, minerals and fiber.
- What if you need to satisfy a sweet craving daily?
- Have just one square of 70% cocoa dark chocolate. It’s loaded with healthy antioxidants and will satisfy your sweet tooth.Â
- A freshly sliced pear or some pineapple is also sweet and healthy for you as well. (You can still have your one square of chocolate in addition).
- Remember moderation is key, so even on your cheat day if you need to have that slice of cake or a cookie just make sure its only one thin slice or one small cookie to satisfy the urge. This way you satisfy the craving but you haven’t over done it so you haven’t blown the diet and you can continue on your path to losing weight.
- You will not be dropping double digit pounds weekly, but a healthy weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week will get you to your goal safely, albeit gradually.
Â
The important thing to remember is the positive reinforcement of your goal that you are still dieting, without being hungry, without losing site of your goal and still satisfying any cravings for forbidden diet foods without guilt.
